Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate has stirred controversy among fans after 'liking' a social media post announcing Cammy Devlin's transfer to Rangers. Devlin, a 28-year-old Australian international, joined the Ibrox club on a free transfer from Hearts, signing a two-year deal with an option for a third year after rejecting offers from Major League Soccer.
Hatate's Social Media Activity Sparks Debate
Hatate, who has publicly expressed his desire to move to a top-five European league this summer, liked the announcement on both Rangers' official Instagram account and Devlin's personal page. The move has divided Celtic supporters, with some interpreting it as an endorsement of the rival club's signing.
One fan commented: "Bye bye Reo Hatate," while another called the action "bizarre." A more critical view labeled Hatate "a wolf in sheep's clothing." However, others defended the player, suggesting it may have been an accident. A supporter noted: "He follows Cammy Devlin on Insta so it's prob popped up on his feed and he's just liked it without reading it." Another added: "He follows Devlin. Could be an accident. And who gives a f***."
Hatate's Pre-Season Absence Explained
Hatate has yet to return to pre-season training with Celtic. Manager Martin O'Neill addressed his absence earlier this week, explaining: "Reo came late to proceedings. I think he was a bit ill at the time, so he missed out about four or five days. He's doing a little bit of work and he's catching up with us in Portugal."
The 28-year-old Japan international missed Celtic's friendly against Shelbourne and is expected to link up with the squad during their Portugal training camp. His future at Parkhead remains uncertain as he seeks a move to a top European league.
