Manchester United are bracing for a frenetic summer transfer window as the market opens, with Michael Carrick aiming to strengthen his squad after a third-place Premier League finish and a return to Champions League football. Key midfielder Casemiro has departed, necessitating reinforcements, and Ederson is set to be the first arrival. However, a former striker has urged the club to join the race for one of the standout stars of the 2026 World Cup: Ivory Coast and RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande.
Former striker urges Diomande hijack
The 19-year-old has impressed on the world stage and in the Bundesliga, with Liverpool reportedly leading the chase. United's bitter rivals are willing to pay £86m for Diomande, but his current club is holding out for a fee exceeding £100m, with a £112m price tag mentioned. Louis Saha, who played for United, has encouraged his former club to intervene. He told Casinolyze.co.uk: "Man Utd should hijack Liverpool's interest in Yan Diomande, definitely. This type of winger now dominates football. When you have that confidence and simplicity in your game, to dribble, pass, be physical, and be courageous, I love that. Those styles are amazing." Saha added: "I think Diomande had a great opening game, and it's been a year with Leipzig where he's done really well. I am pleased to see that kind of career because it was not easy starting in the US and now being a superstar. I think he can be a superstar like Lamine Yamal."
Marcus Rashford's future in flux
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford's situation has taken another twist. The England international, who scored in the Three Lions' opening World Cup win against Croatia, spent last season on loan at Barcelona. Despite a £26m option to buy in the deal, it was not exercised and has since expired, leaving his future uncertain. While a new loan move to Catalonia has been suggested, German outlet Bild reports that Bayern Munich have now turned their attention to the 28-year-old. Rashford's representatives have been contacted by Bayern after the German side missed out on signing his international teammate Anthony Gordon, who has joined Barcelona. However, wage concerns are said to make a deal unlikely.
United's summer plans
With the transfer window now open, United are expected to be busy. The club's third-place finish and Champions League qualification have raised expectations at Old Trafford. Carrick will be eager to add depth and quality, particularly after Casemiro's departure. Ederson is set to be the first arrival, but further moves are anticipated as the club looks to compete on multiple fronts.
