In-demand Hibernian midfielder Josh Mulligan has insisted he is in no rush to leave Easter Road this summer, despite reported interest from Rangers, Celtic, and several Premier League clubs. The 23-year-old, who was wanted by Rangers when leaving Dundee last year, impressed during his debut campaign in Leith and earned a call-up to Steve Clarke's Scotland squad.
Premier League interest emerges
Mulligan's performances have reportedly caught the attention of West Ham, Wolves, and Southampton, all said to be considering a money-spinning offer for the versatile star. However, Mulligan remains focused on his duties at Hibs.
“I went through this when I was at Dundee, so it helps that it's not a new thing I'm going through,” Mulligan told the Hibs Observer. “I just put it to one side. The only thing I'm thinking about is my next game for Hibs. I think if you start looking too much into it, it can get into your own head. Obviously any teams that are interested are interested for a reason, but I think you need to show that you're capable of dealing with the speculation as well. As I said, I just block it out and focus on the next game for Hibs.”
Changing transfer landscape in Scotland
In January, Mulligan watched teammate Kieron Bowie make the move to Hellas Verona from Hibs, and he notes that moves to Celtic or Rangers are no longer the only options for rising Scottish stars. “Since I've started playing first-team football, there have been fewer players going to Celtic and Rangers,” he said. “Back in the day, I think everyone wanted to go there for a big move, but recently, it's not been as common. But I'm not looking to get out the door. I want to be here; I love playing for Hibs, and I want to keep showing what I can do in a Hibs shirt.”
Mulligan's stance suggests he is content to remain at Easter Road and continue his development, despite the transfer speculation swirling around him.
