Four British people are believed to have died in a wildfire in southern Spain, after their bodies were discovered inside a burnt-out car with right-hand drive, indicating it was a UK vehicle. Antonio Sanz, Andalusia's health and emergencies minister, stated that the individuals in the car were thought to be of British origin.
At least 11 dead in Almeria blaze
The deaths are part of a larger tragedy that has claimed at least 11 lives, according to authorities on Friday. The bodies were found near the village of Bédar in Almería province. Officials believe the other seven victims were also foreign tourists.
The victims are thought to have attempted to escape on foot after abandoning their vehicles and trying to flee through rugged terrain. Sanz explained that the decision to take an alternative route instead of the designated evacuation route became a fatal trap. He said the victims sought their own way out through a dry riverbed rather than following the route co-ordinated by emergency services.
Death toll revised down
The death toll has been revised down from an earlier figure of 12 but remains provisional as rescue teams continue to search the fire zone. The wildfire broke out near Los Gallardos, Almeria, and firefighters are still battling the blaze.
