Newcastle United will not stand in the way of Jacob Murphy if he receives a good offer to leave the club this summer, casting doubt on the winger's future at St James' Park. According to Chronicle Live, Murphy's agent has been contacted regarding a potential exit, and his nine-year tenure on Tyneside could be nearing its end.
Contract Situation and Transfer Window
The 31-year-old boyhood fan is entering the final year of his contract, making this the last opportunity for Newcastle to secure a fee for him. Despite reports linking him with Everton over the weekend, no official bid has been submitted. Instead, agents have been sounding out officials on a potential price.
Newcastle are looking to trade strongly after the sales of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon. Murphy is not the only player at risk; Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes, and Nick Pope are also considered squad players who could be sold.
Murphy's Loyalty and Career at Newcastle
Murphy's preference would be to stay and extend his deal, finishing his career at Newcastle. Reflecting on his long stint earlier this year, he said: "I might need a Netflix documentary for that, eight seasons is long. It's just one of those stories of hard work, determination, grit, and never giving up."
He acknowledged the challenges: "You'll find that everyone has the same journey, just a different story. Everyone has hardships, they have successes, and it's up and down all the way. But with the aspirations to do the best you can to make your family proud, your manager proud, your teammates proud, and the fans proud. You get there eventually."
Loan Spells and Rediscovery
Murphy's path was not straightforward; he could have been sold to Sheffield Wednesday or West Bromwich Albion after loan spells. He credited his Sheffield Wednesday loan for helping him "rediscover myself" and thanked former manager Eddie Howe: "Sir Edward then came in and you see what I became. Everyone's always in the debt of Eddie because he's just fantastic, brilliant and he's squeezed all the juice out of everybody."
Under Howe, Murphy improved his game: "I've always had real keen attention to detail and he helped that evolution of me. I thought I saw the game pretty well, but then pictures became even more clear under his guidance."
Club's Revamp and Potential Exit
Newcastle are undergoing a dramatic revamp, and Murphy's departure could be part of that. With the transfer window still open, the club is open to offers for the winger, who has spent nine seasons at St James' Park.
