Final Dave Day: 45,000 Bikers Honour Hairy Biker Dave Myers

An estimated 45,000 bikers took part in the third and final Dave Day on Saturday, riding from London to Barrow-in-Furness in honour of the late Hairy Biker Dave Myers. The event, which raised money for Childline and local causes, was led by Myers' long-time friend and co-star Si King.

Final Ride Home

Dave Myers, one half of the beloved Hairy Bikers duo, died in February 2024 from metastatic cancer. The annual charity ride, first held in 2024, became a tribute to his life and passion for motorcycles. Organisers confirmed this year's event would be the last due to funding and logistical challenges.

Riders set off from the Ace Café in London, following a 300-mile route north to Myers' hometown of Barrow-in-Furness, arriving at 3:30pm to a hero's welcome. The first Dave Day in 2024 saw 46,000 participants, followed by 36,000 in 2025. This year's turnout of 45,000 marked a significant increase.

Charity and Legacy

Funds raised will be split equally between Childline and charitable causes in Barrow-in-Furness. Last year's ride raised over £125,000, while the 2024 event raised £134,000. Organiser Jason Woodcock cited the complexity of arranging the ride and funding issues as reasons for ending the event.

Dave's widow, Lili, visited his childhood home ahead of the final ride, describing it as a 'full circle' moment. She recalled how Myers developed his love of motorbikes from his father, often riding on the back of his bike as a child. 'There are lots of little gems and precious memories in his hometown,' she said.

Hairy Bikers' Impact

Dave Myers and Si King formed the Hairy Bikers, known for their cookbooks, travel cooking programmes, and worldwide entertainment. King, who led the procession, said he 'will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.'

Organisers stated: 'The aim of Dave Day is to spread hope and happiness to all, regardless of who you are or where you're from, honouring and remembering Dave and all other lost loved ones.' The final ride ensured that Myers' spirit lives on through the charity and memories shared by thousands of bikers.
