Chelsea Remove Garnacho from Not for Sale List, Man Utd Boost

Chelsea have removed Alejandro Garnacho from their 'not for sale list' just one year after his £40million move from Manchester United, according to The Athletic. The Blues are open to a permanent transfer for the 22-year-old Argentine winger following a frustrating debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, but have no interest in a loan deal.

Garnacho's Chelsea Struggles

Garnacho made 43 appearances in all competitions during his first season at Chelsea, but failed to establish himself as a regular starter under managers Enzo Maresca, Liam Rosenior, or incoming boss Xabi Alonso. The arrival of promising youngster Geovany Quenda, who has been training individually at Cobham, has further increased competition for places on the wing.

The Argentine's time at Old Trafford ended acrimoniously after a falling-out with then-Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, making him surplus to requirements. Chelsea secured his services on a long-term contract running until 2032, but are now willing to sanction a permanent exit.

Manchester United's Financial Boost

Manchester United shrewdly inserted a 10% sell-on clause into the deal when they sold Garnacho to Chelsea last summer. If Chelsea complete a permanent transfer, United would receive a significant portion of the fee, providing a welcome financial boost.

Garnacho is not the only former United player who could boost the club's coffers. Mason Greenwood, who left for Marseille, is reportedly attracting interest from Roma, with United entitled to up to 50% of any future transfer fee. The Italian club is reportedly preparing a €45m (£38.6m) bid.

Additionally, Hull City's pursuit of Facundo Pellistri could yield another windfall. United sold Pellistri to Panathinaikos in August 2024 with a reported 50% sell-on clause.

Transfer Window Developments

Chelsea have yet to open formal talks with any club regarding Garnacho, but are willing to listen to offers. The Blues have already bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Quenda, and further departures cannot be ruled out as the summer transfer window progresses.

For Manchester United, the potential sale of Garnacho represents an opportunity to recoup a significant portion of the initial £40m fee, while also benefiting from the sell-on clauses inserted in other deals.
