Welsh Beach Footpath Reopens After Huge Rock Fall Closes Route
Welsh Beach Footpath Reopens After Rock Fall

A popular footpath connecting two Welsh beaches has reopened after a huge rock fell onto the walkway, forcing its closure on Sunday. The path between Wiseman's Bridge and Coppet Hall near Saundersfoot in Pembrokeshire was shut as families enjoyed sunny weather.

Landslide Prompts Closure

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the path was closed on Sunday 'due to a landslide,' advising people to take alternative routes. An image showed a very large rock that had fallen from above, with barriers placed around it.

Council Inspection and Reopening

Teams from Pembrokeshire Council inspected the area on Monday morning. The path reopened later that day. A council spokesman said: 'The footpath between Coppet Hall and Wiseman’s Bridge has reopened following a rock fall at the weekend. The rock fall has been assessed as localised and from a low level. The path has therefore reopened and work to remove the fallen material will be carried out in due course.'

History of Landslides

This is not the first time a landslide has closed the path. It was shut after 'substantial rock falls' in late 2023 and early 2024. It reopened in August 2024 but was affected by another rock fall in early 2025, prompting a temporary prohibition order. The path reopened again in June 2025 after extensive safety works and an investment of around £700,000 by the council.
