Sam Smith Reveals Favourite Chippy on Waitrose Podcast
Music icon Sam Smith has named Marshall's in Tynemouth as the 'ultimate' place for fish and chips. The revelation came during an appearance on Waitrose's Dish podcast, hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, where Smith discussed their passion for food and particular tastes.
Family Ties to the North East
Smith, who has family from Whitley Bay, explained their preference for traditional fish and chips from a 'proper' shop rather than gastro pub versions. 'I don't see that as fish and chips. My family are from Whitley Bay and my favourite fish and chip shop is called Marshall's, which is amazing,' Smith said on the podcast. They added: 'When people are talking about fish and chips, they aren't talking about the same fish and chips I am.'
Smith's Rise to Stardom
Since breaking through with Disclosure's Latch and Naughty Boy's La La La over a decade ago, Sam Smith has achieved global fame with hits like Stay With Me, Too Good at Goodbyes, and Unholy. They have also won multiple Brit Awards and Grammy Awards. In 2017, Smith filmed the music video for Too Good at Goodbyes in the North East, featuring locations such as the High Level Bridge, Gateshead Quays, North Shields Fish Quay, and the Jubilee social club in Walker.
Foodie Passion and 'Ham Smith' Instagram
Smith runs a food-focused Instagram account under the username 'Ham Smith', reflecting their culinary interests. The podcast appearance highlighted their discerning palate, with Grimshaw noting Smith only eats fish and chips from a 'proper fish and chip shop' and avoids 'posh' versions from gastropubs.
