Weather maps have turned purple, indicating that snow could fall across parts of the UK later this month, with temperatures potentially dropping to as low as -4C. Charts produced by WXCharts suggest that at least 31 counties across Scotland and England could see snow at 6am on November 11.
Freezing Temperatures Spread South
The freezing conditions are expected to begin hitting the country next week, leaving most of Scotland covered in snow. The snowy conditions will then spread into England, with areas near Leicester, Surrey, Birmingham and Oxford affected, according to the maps.
Temperatures could plummet to sub-zero levels in many parts of the country as an Arctic chill arrives, with areas closer to Inverness experiencing the harshest conditions. The weather charts show Inverness, Fort William, Portree and Stirling seeing mercury levels oscillating between -3C and -4C, while the Midlands could see lows of -1C.
Met Office Warnings and Forecast
The forecasted snow comes after the Met Office issued a series of yellow warnings for fog covering large parts of the UK over recent days, with dense fog and visibility below 100 metres expected in many regions.
The Met Office's long-range forecast between November 6 and 15 reads: "High pressure is likely to dominate conditions across much of the UK initially, with large amounts of cloud at times but any amounts of rain or drizzle tending to be small."
"Quite breezy in the south, but a greater chance of some fog patches in northern areas where winds will be lighter. As the high pressure begins to migrate away to the east, frontal systems may attempt to bring some occasional rain to parts of the southwest and/or northwest at times, though exactly how much progress into the UK this makes is uncertain."
"In any case, rainfall is likely to be below average in many areas for this period as a whole, with temperatures initially a little below average before returning to near or slightly above average."
