Met Office yellow fog warning covers 36 UK areas

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for fog affecting 36 areas of the UK on Saturday morning, with travel disruption expected on roads. The warning came into force at 4am and remains in place until 10am on Saturday, October 31.

Dense fog to cut visibility below 100 metres

The warning alerts that thick fog is set to blanket numerous areas on Saturday morning, with mayhem anticipated on the roads. The warning covers parts of East Midlands, East of England, London and South East England, North West England, Wales, West Midlands, and Yorkshire and Humber.

A Met Office forecast said: "Areas of fog, dense in places with visibility below 100 metres at times, will slowly begin to thin, lift and clear later this morning or, in some spots, not until this afternoon."

Travel delays expected across transport networks

Drivers should anticipate longer journey times, with knock-on delays also likely for bus and train services. The forecaster additionally cautioned that flights could face cancellations or delays.

A spokesperson for the Met Office added: "Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, leaving extra journey time, or amending plans if necessary."

Advice for travellers and previous warnings

"Make sure you know how to switch on your fog lights, and check they are working before setting off on your journey. Bus and train services, as well as flights and ferry travel may also be affected; check for updates from your travel company and follow their advice."

Several parts of the UK were also hit with a yellow weather warning for fog on Friday morning, which remained in place until 10am.
