Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines have been deployed to tackle a significant fire at a recycling centre in Bermondsey, south London. The blaze broke out at the facility on Landmann Way shortly after 5.30pm on Monday.

Crews from Deptford, Old Kent Road and Greenwich were dispatched, along with two 32-metre turntable ladders. Social media footage showed thick plumes of smoke rising high above the city.

The fire has disrupted train services, with passengers travelling between Charing Cross and London Bridge advised to check services before travelling and consider delaying their journeys. Southeastern Railway reported that Hastings line services were starting and terminating at Tonbridge in Kent.

London Fire Brigade urged residents in the vicinity to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke. This incident follows a similar fire three years ago at a recycling centre in Herne Hill, south-west London, where the entire building was destroyed but no injuries were reported.
