Met Office Confirms Hottest Day of the Week for Liverpool at 33C
Met Office: Liverpool's Hottest Day at 33C This Week

The Met Office has confirmed that Friday July 10 will be the hottest day for Liverpool this week, with temperatures expected to reach a maximum of 33C. Although Thursday started cloudy, temperatures continue to climb as large parts of the UK experience strong sunshine. Merseyside remains under a yellow heat-health alert, with above-average conditions forecast throughout the week.

Thursday's Forecast

In its outlook for Thursday July 9, the Met Office stated: "Morning low cloud and fog will quickly disperse to leave a fine and sunny day. Any lingering fog in the Irish Sea may lap onto some coastal stretches at times. Feeling very warm in the July sunshine, with light winds. Maximum temperature 30 °C."

Friday's Peak Heat

Temperatures will climb further on Friday, reaching a maximum of 33C. The forecast said: "Early fog clearing to leave a hot and sunny day across the region. Light winds and high UV levels expected. A very warm evening and night to come too. Maximum temperature 33 °C." Weather maps show deep red patches indicating scorching heat across the region on Friday.

When Will the Hot Weather End?

Although exact temperatures beyond Friday cannot be confirmed, weather maps indicate milder conditions from next Friday July 17. Deep red patches of heat are visible each day until then, when the red patches turn to yellow and then blue, signalling cooler conditions. The Met Office said: "The signal through the end of July and into August becomes increasingly mixed with spells of low pressure and more unsettled weather becoming more likely. There may still be some thunderstorms at times as well. There will still probably be some dry interludes, most probably in the south and southeast. Temperatures are likely to remain warm or very warm and some spells of hot weather remain possible."

Deputy Chief Forecaster's Comments

Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree said: “Many people will understandably want to know how long the current heatwave is likely to last. While temperatures are expected to ease across southeast England through the weekend and into next week, it won't be a straightforward end to the warm weather. High pressure is expected to remain in charge through much of next week, but it will gradually migrate northwards. This means that an easterly wind will become established in the south, and the focus for the hottest conditions will migrate towards the southwest. As a result, some places that have seen the highest temperatures during recent weeks will begin to cool. It will however, remain very warm – especially in the southwest – and heatwave thresholds may continue to be met in places. The overall signal is for continued fine, dry and very warm weather at times for many parts of the UK into next week. There is however a chance of thunderstorms spreading into parts of the south and southwest.”
