London is on track for its hottest-ever recorded days in June, with forecasts of 38C on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 37C on Thursday. The previous June record of 35.6C is expected to be shattered.
Record-Breaking Heat Expected
Last month saw the UK's hottest-ever May day, with 35.1C recorded at Kew Gardens. Now, the capital is set for an even more intense heatwave. According to the Met Office, Sunday and Monday will see highs of 31C, meeting the London heatwave threshold of 28C or above for three consecutive days.
Tuesday is forecast to reach a scorching 38C, matching the record for the hottest day in June. The same temperature is expected on Wednesday, with Thursday predicted to hit 37C. Temperatures will cool slightly towards the end of the week, with 31C forecast for Friday and 28C for Saturday.
Health Alerts and Overnight Heat
An amber heat health alert is in place from Monday to Tuesday, with potential extension as high temperatures persist. Greg Wolverson, deputy chief forecaster at the Met Office, said: "While heatwave criteria will be met for some in the south and south-east of England over the weekend, with temperatures into the low 30s possible, the warmth will expand and intensify at the start of next week, which, coupled with high temperatures overnight, leads to potential impacts."
He added: "Temperatures will peak around the mid-30s on Monday and Tuesday. The humidity will also mean this feels close, warmer and more uncomfortable for many. Tropical nights – where the temperature doesn’t drop below 20C – are also likely for some."
