Temperatures across the United Kingdom are anticipated to decline over the coming days following an unprecedented hot spell, according to forecasters. While warmth will linger in some regions on Friday, particularly in the South East where highs of 28C are probable, the overall trend points to a cooldown.
Weather Shift This Weekend
The Met Office has indicated that although temperatures remain above average for many areas, they will progressively ease as the weather turns cooler and more unsettled during the weekend. Outbreaks of rain are expected to spread from the west, moving gradually eastwards on Saturday.
By Sunday, temperatures should be near-average, with cloud and rain primarily affecting northern and western regions, while brighter spells are forecast for the east and southeast.
Forecaster Insights
Met Office Chief Forecaster Chris Bulmer stated: “We’re now starting to see this spell of very hot weather break down.” He added: “As the heat starts to ease, the weather will also turn more changeable, with some showers and thunderstorms possible. By the weekend, temperatures should be much closer to average for the time of year with accompanying rainfall for many through the weekend and into the start of next week.”
Heatwave Aftermath
The recent heatwave has led to a series of tragic water-related incidents. On Wednesday, a teenage boy became the 11th person to die in such an incident during the hot spell. The warm weather has drawn many to open water swimming, resulting in fatalities across several counties, including South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Cornwall, Hampshire, Warwickshire, Cheshire, Pembrokeshire, Lincolnshire, and Lancashire.
