An American Airlines flight from Rome to Philadelphia was diverted to Dublin, Ireland, after six flight attendants fell ill due to an odour onboard. The Boeing 787, carrying 281 passengers, landed safely on July 25.
Oven Odour Causes Illness
The illness was attributed to a "reported odour onboard caused by an oven," according to the airline. Six of the nine flight attendants experienced dizziness, prompting the pilots to divert the aircraft.
Paramedics met the flight at the gate in Dublin. An American Airlines spokesperson told The Post: "Paramedics met the aircraft at the gate out of an abundance of caution and the flight attendants and one customer were evaluated and subsequently released."
Passengers Accommodated
Travellers were provided hotel accommodation at no extra cost and rebooked on flights the following day. The spokesperson added: "We appreciate the understanding of our customers and thank our team members for their professionalism."
Similar Incident in June
This is not the first odour-related disruption for American Airlines. In June, a smell from the cockpit caused a flight from New York to Philadelphia to divert to Syracuse after two pilots became nauseated.
