Tenerife Tourists Vow Never to Return After Bad Weather

A holidaymaker known as Sam T has sparked widespread debate after sharing footage of the overcast skies from his sunbed in Tenerife, leading many tourists to vow they will never return to the Canary Islands. The video, which shows blue skies gradually turning grey with thunder and lightning, has prompted numerous visitors to share similar grievances about the unpredictable weather.

Tourists Share Disappointment

One commenter stated: "I just don't get the hype with the Canaries. Beaches ain't pretty and there's always so much cloud." Another wrote: "Been here since the 19th and it's been so inconsistent. It's cloudy then a bit of sun. Rubbish really." A third added: "The weather sucks. No sunshine, clouds always around the mountains. Five more days then I go home. Never ever coming back. I'll try to leave earlier. Biggest disappointment of this year."

Sam T acknowledged that while temperatures have been warm, it has been "overcast a lot of the time." He noted that this is his first experience of such persistent cloud cover despite multiple previous visits. However, not all tourists were dissatisfied. One user commented: "I was here 15th to 22nd and had lush weather!" while another said: "Still absolutely boiling though." A further commenter added: "Been here since 18th April. It's been mid 20s every day - been scorching."

Understanding Tenerife's Climate

Tenerife is generally not considered a cloudy destination, but it features distinct microclimates. The northern region tends to be greener and more overcast, while the south enjoys reliably sunny weather. Cloud formations often build over the central mountains and can drift toward coastal areas, particularly between September and May. This year, however, weather patterns have been more troublesome than usual. In early 2026, the island experienced some of the worst unseasonal weather in over a decade, including Storm Therese in March, which brought heavy rain, strong winds, flash flooding, and rare snowfall at higher altitudes. The storm also caused travel chaos and flight cancellations, further fueling recent conversations about the conditions on the popular holiday island.
