Newcastle Hourly Weather Forecast as Heatwave Brings Yellow Health Warning
Newcastle Heatwave: Hourly Forecast and Health Warning

A yellow heat health warning will be active across the North East from 9am on Wednesday, 8 July until 9pm on Sunday, 12 July, as the UK experiences its third heatwave of the year. The risk score of 10 indicates significant possible impacts on health and social care services.

Temperatures and Conditions

While temperatures are not expected to reach the record-breaking levels seen during the June heatwave, many areas will see several consecutive hot days. Parts of southern England could hit 34-35°C, but the North East will be slightly cooler. Newcastle is forecast to reach a high of 26°C on 8 July, with gentle breezes and a low chance of rain (5%) throughout the day.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates said: “Parts of the UK are entering heatwave conditions: the third heatwave in the UK so far this year. However, unlike the May and June heatwaves, we are not expecting this heatwave to be record-breaking.”

Night-Time Temperatures and Tropical Nights

Night-time temperatures will not be as high as in June, but larger urban areas may remain in the high teens Celsius overnight, especially later in the week. There is a chance that a tropical night (where temperatures do not fall below 20°C) may be recorded in a few locations.

Regional Impact

Much of England and Wales will be hot, with the heat extending to parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, where peak temperatures are more likely to be in the upper 20s Celsius. High UV and high temperatures are expected, prompting officials to advise precautions.

Keates added: “With high UV and high temperatures, people should take the usual precautions with the heat and the sun.”

Health Advice and Precautions

People are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure during the hottest part of the day, and check on vulnerable friends, family, and neighbours. UV levels are expected to be high or very high across many parts of the UK throughout the week, and appropriate sun protection is recommended. Pollen levels are also expected to be high or very high in some areas.
