Orlando Bloom has revealed he has applied for an Irish passport following his split from Katy Perry. The 48-year-old actor, whose grandfather was from Northern Ireland, said the move was partly to ease travel in Europe after Brexit.
Speaking on Virgin Radio, Bloom explained: “I’m getting my Irish passport. [My grandfather] was actually from Northern Ireland.” He added that the decision was also practical: “Part of it was actually just for work, like, when I was working in Prague for a while, [there was] a whole bunch of new paperwork.”
The Lord of the Rings star, who was born in Canterbury, Kent, said he also wanted to embrace his heritage. “I love the fact that I’ve got Irish heritage. That’s all it is,” he said.
Bloom’s Irish roots are not new; in 2023, he surprised pub-goers by singing the Irish classic She Moved Through the Fair at The Alma in Windsor. He stars as a retired Irish boxer in the upcoming psychological thriller The Cut.
The actor and pop star Perry, 40, announced their split in June after nine years together. They share a four-year-old daughter, Daisy, and said in a joint statement they are “shifting their relationship to focus on co-parenting.”
