Met Office Halloween weekend forecast: dry and cool

Scotland is set for a calmer and largely dry Halloween weekend, according to the Met Office, following the disruption caused by Storm Austen and Storm Boelo.

High Pressure to Bring Quieter Weather

The national forecaster expects high pressure to build from Wednesday, easing winds and bringing a quieter end to the week for many, although some rain remains possible in the north and west.

Met Office deputy chief forecaster Steven Keates said: "While the start of this week will be notably wet and windy, high pressure is expected to bring a quieter spell of weather later in the week."

Friday Forecast

On Friday, October 30, a band of rain is expected to hit the west of Scotland by midday, affecting Fort William, Oban and parts of Strathclyde. The east coast, central belt and south of Scotland are expected to see dry conditions for most of Friday and into the evening.

By 6pm, most of Scotland will see highs in the low teens, with Forres, Ullapool and Glasgow reaching 13C. Areas near the borders will see lower temperatures, with Dumfries and Kelso at 9C.

Halloween Night

On Saturday, October 31, a band of rain is predicted to travel across Scotland in the early hours, but is expected to scatter by early evening. Smaller outbreaks of rain are expected in Dundee, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dumfries and Galloway, but most of Scotland can expect a dry Halloween night.

Temperatures are expected to remain close to, or slightly above, average for this time of year. Those staying out late in the north and west of Scotland can expect temperatures of only 7C, which could feel colder with a light breeze.
