Weather warnings have been issued across Europe as temperatures rocket, with Spain, France and Italy bracing for highs of up to 40°C. Authorities are warning of dangerous conditions as a major heatwave sweeps across the continent.
Heat warnings in place across Europe
Whether you have a holiday booked in Europe or are staying home this weekend, you could be hit with a wave of high temperatures as parts of the UK and Europe have weather warnings in place. As Wales has an extreme heat warning in place for this weekend, popular holiday destinations across Europe will also see extreme temperatures.
Spain, France and Italy will see temperatures up to 40°C as authorities warn of dangerous temperatures. Not only have weather warnings been issued for high temperatures but also for rainfall and storms.
Spain
AEMET, Spain's meteorological agency, has issued yellow weather warnings across parts of the country for a "notable rise" in temperatures, while an orange alert for rainfall and storms has been declared in the northeast.
France
Last month's heatwave across France saw the death of multiple people, so the country is now preparing for predicted highs of 39°C in the southwest and Bordeaux region with 26 orange warnings in place.
Italy
Weather specialists in Italy caution that warm air from the subtropical latitudes over inland North Africa will sweep across the country next week, delivering scorching temperatures in the south – while Florence could experience highs of 40°C. Orange warnings are in place across Bologna, Brescia, Perugia and Turin with predicted temperatures between 33°C and 36°C. Rome, Milan and Naples are amongst 12 cities that have a yellow warning due to concerns over persistent heatwaves.
Other European countries
Even traditionally cooler countries are displaying indications of heating up in the forthcoming days. Based on early forecasts from weather experts at wfy24.com, the interior Danube plains of Bulgaria and Romania are approaching 38°C, with Budapest rising into the 36–37°C range.
