Wimbledon Heat Rule to Impact Play as Fery Faces Cobolli

For the second consecutive year, high temperatures are set to disrupt play at Wimbledon. The mercury is expected to soar past 30 degrees Celsius in SW19 during the second week of the 2026 tournament, mirroring conditions from the previous summer.

Heat Rule Protocol

Tournament organizers rely on the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index to determine whether to enforce heat rule protocols. This heat index measures air temperature, humidity, and surface temperature using a heat stress monitor. If the WBGT reading reaches 30.1°C or higher, players are granted a ten-minute break between sets.

The heat rule applies only to matches played with the roof open at Centre Court or on courts without a roof. Matches under a closed roof are not affected.

Arthur Fery's Quarter-Final Clash

British hopeful Arthur Fery is set to face Italian world No. 10 Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-finals on Centre Court. The match is expected to start around 3:10 PM local time. Fery will be hoping conditions remain manageable as he seeks a place in the semi-finals.

According to tournament officials, the heat rule is likely to be invoked if temperatures continue to rise, providing players with a crucial respite during high-stakes matches.
