A British documentary filmmaker has made the extraordinary claim that the Vatican is actively preparing for the possibility of first contact with an extraterrestrial civilisation, potentially within this year.

UFO researcher and filmmaker Mark Christopher Lee states he has been granted rare access to the Vatican's confidential archives. He is investigating historical records of unexplained phenomena and spiritual encounters that might indicate past interactions with alien life.
Lee suggests the discovery of intelligent life beyond Earth would send profound shockwaves through the Catholic Church, more than any other global institution. He posits that Pope Leo XIV could become the first spiritual leader in history to address 'First Contact' publicly.

This is not the first time Vatican officials have contemplated the existence of extraterrestrials. In 2008, Vatican astronomer Father Gabriel Funes wrote in the Vatican newspaper that intelligent beings created by God could exist elsewhere.
