Thierry Henry has spoken out about Manchester City's legal battle with the Premier League, saying that stripping the club of its success will not erase the quality of the squads they had. The former Arsenal striker gave his verdict on the case while City await their appeal after being found guilty of all but one of their financial breaches.
Henry's Verdict on City's Case
Speaking to CBS Sports, Henry said he is not qualified to discuss what comes next or what the punishment might be. He added that he feels sorry for the players, saying it has nothing to do with them and they do not know what happened.
"Whatever outcome, punishment, it's not what I believe (but) it's always going to be, 'ah, did you really win?' That's unfair for those guys, Vincent Kompany was a hell of a player, Kevin de Bruyne was a hell of a player," Henry said.
Fake Quotes Addressed
Henry also addressed fake quotes attributed to him that were shared on social media following the verdict. He emphatically shut them down, saying: "Fake news. I haven't spoken to anyone about Manchester City. Stop inventing stories."
He added: "There is a procedure that we have to respect, the facts are the fact, yes when they've been found guilty and when you appeal it doesn't erase everything but it gives hope that maybe you might not be guilty."
City's Current Standing
Manchester City remain top of the Premier League after a win over Liverpool on Sunday. They were beaten by PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday night and are back at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday when they host Ipswich Town.
