The Shark Power Detect Transformer PowerTrio System Upright Vacuum with Detect and Reveal has become a favourite home gadget after weeks of testing. Described as the brand's first 3-in-1 hoseless upright vacuum, it offers a powerful clean on hard floors, carpet, and plush rugs, with the main pod detaching to create a stick for tight areas and a handheld vacuum for tricky spots like cornices.
Design and Intelligent Features
The vacuum integrates four intelligent technologies: Direction Detect, Edge Detect, Floor Detect, and Dirt Detect. The Reveal Technology uses an LED light to show minute dust particles invisible to the naked eye. The Edge Detect function automatically increases suction at edges, which saved the tester from scraping newly repainted skirting boards. Anti-hair wrap technology uses a two-brush roll system to collect hair and prevent clogging, while HEPA filtration and an anti-allergen complete seal claim to collect 99.9 per cent of dust and allergens.
The stick includes four attachments: a Duster Crevice Tool, Stair Tool, HairPro Pet Power Brush, and Anti-allergen dusting brush. These proved useful for a post-DIY deep clean, reaching nooks, upholstery, and cushions. The vacuum offers different settings for hard floors, carpet/low pile, and thick carpet or rugs, plus a Detect Mode that automatically adjusts suction.
Performance and Practicality
The eight-metre cord allowed cleaning of an open-plan kitchen, lounge, bathroom, and most bedrooms with only one socket change. The hand vac section has a smaller dust cup that automatically empties into the main dust pod, making emptying simple and mess-free. The tester, a mild asthmatic, noticed clearer air in their flat after use.
However, the corded design is heavier than cordless models, and the wand requires force to slot back into the main pod. The vacuum also makes considerable noise, which is irritating combined with the loud suction.
Verdict
Weighing 8.02 kg and measuring 28.5 cm L x 30.61 cm W x 117.2 cm H, the Shark Transformer is powerful, easy to use, and efficient, making cleaning effortless. The multifunctionality justifies the price tag, and the vacuum leaves the home spotless, making it a worthy investment for those seeking a thorough clean.
