Nationwide Building Society has confirmed it is working to introduce payment notifications across its iOS and Android apps, following a customer query raised on social media.
The customer asked how they could raise a suggestion, noting the app was missing instant notifications for money coming in and out of accounts. They said: "The bank app is missing instant notifications alert for money coming in and out of your accounts. I feel like this is a massive feature Nationwide are missing that we all wish it had."
Feature in development
Nationwide responded to the customer, saying the feature was being actively worked on. The provider said: "This is a feature that our team are actively working on at the moment, and once it's available, we'll let you know via the app."
A Nationwide spokesperson later provided more detail: "We're working to introduce payment notifications across our iOS and Android apps later this year. Customers will be updated closer to the launch through the app."
Other digital upgrades
Nationwide also highlighted its ongoing work to improve digital services, including the recent introduction of a free credit score service. The group said: "We're continually improving our digital services to make banking even better, including the recent introduction of our free credit score service."
The building society added: "Feedback plays an important role in shaping future improvements, and we welcome suggestions from customers online, over the phone or via social media." A new widget has been added in online banking and the Nationwide app for customers to access the free credit score service, which will not affect their credit rating and will show what factors affect their score.
Credit score and benefits tools
Chief product owner David Gordon said: "We know that for some people credit scores are notoriously difficult to understand and we want to help with that." He said the service is designed to "help our customers build financial confidence, improve their financial wellbeing and make more informed decisions about their money".
Nationwide also recently expanded the remit of its Better Off Indicator, a tool to help people find out if they can access other support, such as DWP benefits. The service is now available through Virgin Money channels, so the calculator can be used on the Virgin Money website. Some 17,000 households have used the tool since it launched in 2025, with the average user identifying an extra £555 a month they could claim.
