Eatflix, the immersive 5D cinema experience that has taken Newcastle by storm, is expanding to Tynemouth. Founders Joe and Ollie Brack have secured the keys to the historic Palace Buildings on Grand Parade for their second venue.
From Pop-Up to Permanent
Eatflix began as a pop-up event at the brothers' bar Alfie's on the outskirts of Newcastle city centre. It offered a unique movie night with a curated menu of food and drink served at precise moments during classic films to match the on-screen action. The concept quickly became a word-of-mouth success, with tickets selling out rapidly.
In early 2025, Joe and Ollie opened a dedicated Eatflix venue in a former dance hall on Chillingham Road in Heaton, transforming it into a luxury cinema that brought old-school Hollywood glamour to the suburb.
Record Demand
Over the past 18 months, thousands have flocked to Heaton for themed screenings of films like Pulp Fiction, Scream, Hocus Pocus, The Goonies, Shrek, and Mamma Mia. The Elf screenings last Christmas saw upwards of 19,000 people attempt to book tickets simultaneously.
The Tynemouth venue will be located just a few doors down from Surfers, another business run by the Brack brothers. The Palace Buildings have previously housed a ballroom, toy museum, lounge bar, restaurant, and roller disco.
Ambitious Plans
Announcing the expansion, Joe and Ollie said: "We're beyond excited to be opening our second Eatflix site. To be doing so in such a historic building just adds to it. From day one, we both had the same vision for Eatflix, which was to completely reimagine what entertainment can look and feel like."
They added: "We're constantly asking ourselves how we can make the experience bigger, more immersive and more memorable. Opening another site gives us the opportunity to bring even more movies to life, create completely new experiences and give more people the chance to step inside the worlds they've grown up watching on screen. We're incredibly proud to be growing Eatflix here in the North East. We want to build something right here that people would normally expect to have to travel to London, America or elsewhere to experience."
The brothers also hinted at future growth: "This is only the beginning for us. We want to keep pushing what's possible with immersive entertainment, continue growing in our home region and, ultimately, take Eatflix far beyond it. The dream is to build an entertainment brand that started in Newcastle and can hopefully one day be recognised far beyond our home city."
