Bananas Stay Fresh for 26 Days Without Browning With This Storage Method
Bananas Stay Fresh 26 Days With Simple Storage Trick

Bananas often turn brown and mushy before we have a chance to use them. However, a clever storage technique can keep them fresh for nearly a month, requiring only a few extra steps.

The Method That Extends Banana Freshness

There are many techniques to prevent banana browning, but this one keeps them fresh and edible for up to 26 days, making it highly effective. It involves a bit more effort but significantly prolongs the fruit's lifespan.

Amy Cross, known online as @amycrosslegacy, demonstrated the method on TikTok. In a clip that garnered hundreds of likes, she shows two simple steps to keep bananas fresh. The result: bananas that remain vibrant with yellow skins for 26 days.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • First, cut the bananas into pieces, leaving the skin on.
  • Then, place them in a glass jar and store the jar in the refrigerator.

Cross explains: "These are the bananas I purchased on March 13, and I cut this into thirds and put it into a jar, so they're 26 days old." Her original goal was to see if a sliced banana could stay fresh for 12 hours, but she far exceeded that.

She added: "The whole goal of putting the bananas in the jar was to see if I can get a cut banana to last 12 hours, and it's been 26 days."

Alternative Storage Tips

While this method is highly effective, it does require fridge space. If that's a concern, other options exist.

Bananas stay fresh best at around 12 degrees Celsius. They ripen faster in hot conditions or direct sunlight. A cool, dark spot is ideal for storage.

For peeled bananas, coating them in citrus juice can keep them fresh and ready for fruit salads.
