Shoppers have praised Airyday's Golden Glow SPF50+ Dreamscreen as a 'game changer', with one calling it the "first sunscreen that does not feel oily or sticky." The SPF primer has an average rating of 4.9 out of five stars based on nearly 1,500 reviews.
Created after skin cancer diagnosis
Australian brand Airyday was founded by Frances van der Velden after she was hit with a skin cancer diagnosis at just 36 years old. Driven by her own frustrations when attempting to find a sunscreen she liked, Frances set out to create SPF products that wouldn't feel heavy or sticky to wear, making them easy to apply on a daily basis.
The result was the Airyday SPF Wardrobe, featuring different formulas, finishes and textures designed to suit all kinds of skin types, tones and routines, according to the brand. These sunscreens have an SPF50+ rating for full protection from UV rays, but also have skin health and appearance in mind with ingredients including hyaluronic acid and Vitamins C, E and F to boost hydration and brightness.
Shoppers share their reviews
The number one bestseller in the Airyday SPF Wardrobe is the Golden Glow SPF50+ Dreamscreen, which the brand says will give skin "an instant sun-kissed, luminous finish" with a sheer golden tint. Priced at £39, this SPF primer can be worn on its own or underneath foundation, and is described as being best suited for dull or tired-looking skin.
Made with niacinamide, vegan collagen and Vitamins C, E and F, Golden Glow SPF50+ Dreamscreen has a champagne and peony scent for a luxurious touch. Also available in two other shades to suit a range of skin tones - Pearl Glow and Bronze Glow - it has impressed beauty lovers with an average rating of 4.9 out of five stars based on nearly 1,500 reviews.
One shopper who snapped up the Golden Glow SPF50+ Dreamscreen praised in a five-star review: "Not one to write a review but this is a game changer so couldn't not share. Perfect makeup base. Tried so many, none of them rate, but this. Obsessed."
Another reviewer raved: "So easy to apply and not thick or gluggy. It's actually light and easy to forget you have it on! So delighted with this buy [and] will definitely buy again. I love it so much!"
And a third customer fed back: "This product is gold! I live in the tropics and the sun and it feels amazing. I wear underneath makeup and the glow is stunning. The feel and the texture - wow. Best sunscreen formula I have ever used. I'll be taking it overseas soon too!"
And someone else declared: "First sunscreen that does not feel oily or sticky."
Some find the scent strong
Not everyone was quite as impressed, however, with one person remarking: "I find the scent a bit strong and overwhelming. But I am very sensitive to smells. I'll probably use it on my body but not my face."
While a different reviewer commented: "I like the glow this gives but I found the scent overpowering and it stings my eyes unfortunately."
Airyday responded to this review advising: "Eye sensitivity can be really individual, and while many customers don't experience this with our formulas, some more sensitive eyes can still react or feel irritated. Golden Glow is also one of our fragranced formulas, so fragrance can sometimes be a trigger for those with sensitivities, although it may also be due to another ingredient or simply how the formula moves on the skin throughout the day."
The brand added: "A little tip that may help is to apply Golden Glow slightly further away from the eye area, avoiding the orbital bone, and allow it to fully set before applying makeup or heading out into the heat. A light setting powder around the eye or forehead area may also help minimise movement throughout the day."
Over on the high street, the bestselling sunscreen at Boots is La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid, which has a price tag of £21 and an SPF rating of 50+. Described as being suitable for all types of skin, including sensitive or reactive, this non-perfumed sunscreen is also water, sweat and sand-resistant and leaves no white cast, the brand claims.
At Sephora, meanwhile, the top-selling choice is Relief Sun: Rice + ProBiotics SPF50+ by viral Korean skincare brand Beauty of Joseon. Priced at £16, this sunscreen is made to feel like moisturiser with a non-sticky finish, and contains rice extract to nourish the skin, according to its description.
