Cooking sausages in an air fryer produces golden, juicy results without needing any oil, making it a quick and simple method that also reduces kitchen mess. The hot circulating air helps the sausages brown beautifully on the outside while they release enough fat as they cook.
How to cook sausages in the air fryer
To start, place the sausages in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving a little space between them. Cooking time varies depending on the sausage type; thicker sausages may take longer, so it is important to refer to the packet instructions.
For chipolatas, cooking at 180°C for about 12 to 15 minutes, turning them halfway through, ensures they brown evenly. It is also important to make sure they are fully cooked through and piping hot before serving.
Other ways to cook sausages
If you do not have an air fryer, sausages can be baked in the oven, pan-fried, or grilled. For oven cooking, place them on a baking tray at around 190°C for 20 to 25 minutes, turning halfway through and following packet instructions.
When grilling, cook under a medium grill for around 15 to 20 minutes, turning regularly. Frying is also popular: heat a frying pan over medium heat and cook until golden brown, though oil may not be needed if the sausages release enough fat.
The air fryer method wins every time, delivering crisp, browned edges without standing over a frying pan or adding oil.
