Swedish PM criticised for using AI in official speeches

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has faced backlash after admitting he regularly uses AI tools such as ChatGPT and LeChat for a 'second opinion' in his role. Kristersson, leader of the Moderate party, told Dagens industri that he and his colleagues employ AI in their daily work.

Tech experts have raised concerns, with Simone Fischer-Hübner of Karlstad University warning against using ChatGPT for sensitive information. An editorial in Aftonbladet accused Kristersson of falling for 'the oligarchs’ AI psychosis'.

Kristersson’s spokesperson, Tom Samuelsson, clarified that no security-sensitive information is entered into AI tools, and they are used only as a 'ballpark'. However, Virginia Dignum, professor of responsible AI at Umeå University, cautioned that AI merely reflects the views of its creators and cannot provide meaningful opinions on political ideas.

Dignum warned of a 'slippery slope' towards overconfidence in AI, stating, 'We didn’t vote for ChatGPT.' The controversy highlights growing scrutiny over politicians' use of artificial intelligence.
