Wyndham Clark Leads US Open Heading into Final Round
American Wyndham Clark holds the lead at the US Open as the tournament reaches its climax at Shinnecock Hills. The 32-year-old shot a stunning opening round of 64, featuring five birdies and an eagle, followed by rounds of 69 and 70 to sit atop the leaderboard. He is poised to become a new major champion if he maintains his form on the final day.
Clark Criticizes Crowd Atmosphere
Despite his strong performance, Clark expressed disappointment with the atmosphere in Southampton, New York. 'It was kind of unfortunate that we're finishing in the dark and people weren't really out there because there were some obviously key, big moments, and it did kind of get a little flat,' Clark said on Saturday. He added, 'Hopefully tomorrow [Sunday] there's a bunch of fans and stuff, but for me, it's still really important, and I still felt the moment. It's just maybe unfortunate that there weren't all the people there.'
Rory McIlroy Withdraws from Travelers Championship
Rory McIlroy, currently at three-over par and out of contention at the US Open, has decided to skip the upcoming Travelers Championship. This marks the third signature event he has bypassed this PGA season. While players are generally required to compete in at least 15 events to avoid penalties, McIlroy is exempt due to his lifetime PGA Tour membership, earned through 30 career victories. He will have participated in five of the eight signature events this season.
