Celtic have made an enquiry for ex-Hearts star James Penrice. Record Sport understands the Hoops have made initial contact with AEK Athens over the availability of the left-back.
Celtic are exploring their options after loan star Marcelo Saracchi ruled out a return to Parkhead. With Kieran Tierney the only senior left-back at the club, Martin O'Neill is keen to add more strength and depth in the position. Penrice is viewed as a possible target for the Scottish champions.
Penrice's career and Rangers interest
Penrice has made 33 appearances for AEK Athens since joining the Greek giants from Hearts in a £2million deal last summer. The ex-Partick Thistle and Livingston defender has been tracked by Rangers over the last six months.
Record Sport previously revealed how former boss Danny Rohl was a fan of the defender and asked the club's technical director Dan Purdy to check out his performances in Greece. However, Derek McInnes has yet to resurrect Gers' initial interest in the 27-year-old. That could leave the door open for Celtic to make their move with the Parkhead side now ramping up their recruitment drive.
Kyogo joins LA Galaxy
It comes just as former Hoops striker Kyogo, linked with a return to the club this summer, has finally found a new club. The Japan star has had no luck since leaving Celtic for Rennes and has endured a nightmare at Birmingham. But he's now signed for LA Galaxy in MLS – incredibly signing a deal which runs until 2031.
