Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges the Premier League levied against them for breaches of financial regulations. The verdict arrives three-and-a-half years after the club first learned of the accusations.
Relegation odds cut sharply
Betfair have slashed City's odds of being relegated this season from 11/1 to 9/2 following the verdict, giving Enzo Maresca's side an 18% chance of dropping to the Championship. The club now sit as sixth favourites for relegation, behind Coventry, Hull, Ipswich, Crystal Palace and Fulham.
Title odds lengthen
The news has also affected their title prospects. City had odds of 6/5 to win the Premier League after winning all five of their opening games to top the table, but those odds have now shortened to 5/2.
Potential sanctions
Punishments have yet to be decided, but the league leaders could face a fine, a points deduction or even expulsion from the Premier League. The verdict comes just three months into Maresca's tenure as manager, with the club preparing to appeal against the decision.
