In the dramatic 2011/12 season, Manchester United finished in second place with an identical points total to their fierce local rivals. There was a zero-point differential as City won purely on goal difference, meaning United would inherit this championship if the title is retroactively reassigned.
Liverpool were the runners-up during the 2013/14 campaign, falling short of the top spot by a very narrow margin. The points differential that year was just two points in City's favour, positioning Liverpool to potentially add another league crown to their historic tally.
United's Record Haul
United were once again the second-placed team during the 2017/18 season, though they were significantly further behind the champions. City secured an unprecedented 100 points that year, leaving a massive 19-point differential between first and second place.
It is almost poetic that bitter rivals United stand to benefit the most from City being stripped of titles, if that is the final outcome. That would increase United's all-time top-flight tally to 22 titles, while Liverpool would sit one behind on 21.
