Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua's long-awaited grudge match has finally been confirmed for December 11 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium. The bout, which is more than a decade in the making, is set to be broadcast around the world on Netflix, who are pushing for a late-night start time in order to cater for an American audience.
Ticket demand expected to outstrip supply
The television audience around the world is likely to stretch into the millions, while tens of thousands of fans are also expected to descend on Cardiff for what will surely be one of the biggest fights on these shores for a generation. Many will understandably already be wondering how to get their hands on a ticket.
The demand is likely to vastly outstrip supply, and there's likely to be a substantial scramble when they eventually go on sale. Details haven't yet been released, but Matchroom have now set up a portal for fans to register for ticket alerts.
Prices expected to rise from 2018 levels
Prices for the last fight at the stadium, which incidentally was Joshua's bout with Joseph Parker in 2018, ranged from around £40 to £600, with VIP tickets reaching as much as £2,000. Given the scale of this bout, it seems certain prices will be significantly higher this time around, but details haven't yet been released.
Fans will get the chance to have a first glimpse of the pair facing off later this month, with a news conference in London pencilled in for Wednesday, September 30.
Fighters react to the announcement
However, there's been a fair amount of reaction already. Joshua reacted to news of the fight being announced on his official Instagram, writing: "I am inspiring a generation".
Fury is yet to react, but has already suggested he's delighted to be fighting in Wales. Posting on his Instagram earlier this week, he wrote: "If this fight happens in Wales this will be amazing." "All my mother's people are from Wales. It will be like a homecoming."
Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh, who played a key role in bringing the fight together, added: "Two of the best heavyweights of this generation, finally in the ring together."
