He chopped out delicately, but the ball did not release, leaving a tricky 12-foot putt for an unlikely par. He nearly made it, but the ball trickled off to the right, causing him to buckle his knees in theatrical angst. Given his initial drive and the trouble he found with his provisional, bogey was not a bad outcome.
