A man has been charged with two counts of murder after the bodies of a father and son were found at a rural property in Gurranang, Australia, more than two weeks apart. He was refused bail and will appear in bail division court on Wednesday.
Discovery at rural property
New South Wales Police officers said they "did not anticipate what they found" after discovering a man's body in a shed while investigating the death of another man at the same property. The force arrested a hospitalised man following the discoveries.
The son's body was found at the rural home on Summerland Way on Monday afternoon, following reports on September 13 that a 79-year-old man had been found inside the home. When officers attended the property at 3.40pm on Monday for follow-up investigations, they found the body of the man's 59-year-old son in the shed.
Police response
Superintendent Joanna Schultz said: "They did not anticipate what they found." According to the Daily Telegraph, officers had visited the property to attend to the father's belongings. The son is believed to have suffered multiple stab wounds.
Superintendent Schultz added: "The 59-year-old male is not from Gurranang. He was visiting the property and it appears that he died in the last 24 to 48 hours."
Charges and court appearance
Schultz described the crime scene as "confronting". "No-one likes to attend those sorts of situations," she said. "Both clearly traumatic scenes and particularly for those officers that arrived on the scene yesterday and were not expecting to locate the 59-year-old male in the situation [where] he was deceased."
Early on Wednesday morning, the man was charged with two counts of murder and one of vehicle theft. He was refused bail and will appear in bail division court on Wednesday.
