Best events under £100 this week - sport mega final, One Direction star and 'best ever' musical
Best events under £100 this week: sport, music and theatre

With ticket prices rising to seemingly extortionate levels and Brits battling an on-going cost of living crisis, it's getting harder for many to justify splashing out on tickets. Recent data shows that music, sport and theatre tickets have sky-rocketed more than 250% in the last decade, forcing Brits to think twice before committing to a big night out.

Thankfully, the Daily Star has you covered, because we've picked out some top tier nights of entertainment that won't require you to take out a mortgage. Here are some of the best last-minute events that you can still buy tickets for less than £100 from Viagogo.

Curtain Raisers

Going to a show can sometimes feel out of reach financially. With drinks at a premium and the little ones demanding a £7 ice-cream during the interval, catching the latest big musicals can come at a real price. More often than not, big stage productions can set you back a small fortune, especially if you're not going to book months and months in advance.

However, if you know where to look, there are several huge name shows that you can still get last minute tickets to that won't cost you an arm and a leg. Disney's The Lion King at London's Lyceum Theatre features impressive puppetry and songs by Elton John and Tim Rice. Based on the much-loved animated film, its Broadway production scooped six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Tickets in the royal circle can be picked up for £70 a piece for as early as this Tuesday.

Also in London, Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre tells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton through hip-hop, R&B and traditional musical theatre. Created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show has won a remarkable 11 Tony Awards, seven Olivier Awards and a Pulitzer Prize, making it one of the most celebrated pieces of theatre of all time. Tickets are around £80 for as early as next week.

Dirty Dancing is listed at Oxford's New Theatre on October 6. Fans of the Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey film can enjoy Baby and Johnny's summer romance on stage, alongside familiar songs and dance routines. This is probably the bargain of the bunch, with tickets for as early as next Tuesday going for only £37 a pop.

If you fancy something a bit newer, Glasgow's Kings Theatre are putting on the instant cult classic Dear Evan Hansen, which was so popular it sparked a full length Hollywood film only a few years after it debuted. Tickets are still hovering around the £100 mark, although they are selling out quick.

Gig Economy

It's not just musicals that can be picked up quick last minute. This week promises some top tier gigs and concerts that can still be picked up for under £100. Perhaps the biggest hitter is One Direction's Niall Horan, with the Irish heartthrob's show at the O2 still selling tickets for under £50 for this Friday's (October 2) show.

If you fancy something a bit more old school, tickets to Westlife at Leeds's First Direct Arena are hovering around the £100 mark for their October 6th gig. But the bargain of the lot has to be the Pussycat Dolls, whose Leeds and Nottingham shows this week are still available for under £15.

Sports for cheap

Perhaps the industry to see the biggest price rises in recent years has been sport, with football tickets going from something most could afford to something of a status symbol in terms of their extortionate prices. Luckily, some sporting events are still fairly reasonable, and probably more enjoyable than Nottingham Forest vs Coventry.

Incredibly, tickets to the prestigious Rugby Super League Final at Old Trafford are still available for only £80, with the Warrington Wolves vs Wakefield Trinity clash looking likely to be a feisty affair. If you fancy something a bit different, and a bit more chilly, a Saturday showdown between UK ice hockey giants Sheffield Steelers and the Fife Flyers looks likely to be a cracking affair too, and can be picked up for around £40.

Finally, tickets for the World Grand Prix of Darts in Leicester, which will feature the likes of Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphreys, are still less than £30, including for the much anticipated Saturday night showdown.
