Hearts have completed the signing of Dutch goalkeeper Beau Reus on a three-year contract, with the 6ft 6in shotstopper becoming the club's ninth summer arrival at Tynecastle. The move was announced on the same day the Jambos confirmed that German keeper Alexander Schwolow is returning to his homeland to sign for Bundesliga side Mainz.
Champions League Availability
Schwolow will remain with Hearts until August 1, meaning he will be available for the Champions League second round qualifier against Sturm Graz. Reus, meanwhile, joins as a free agent after leaving SK Beveren, where he helped the club win the Belgian second division without losing a single game last season.
Interest from Other Clubs
The 24-year-old had attracted interest from Ligue 1 side Auxerre and Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen. However, Reus, who is familiar with Hearts manager Wouter Vrancken from their four-year spell together at Beveren, opted for a move to the Scottish Premiership with the Jambos, who came within minutes of winning the title last season.
Reus's Ambition
Speaking about his move, Reus said: "We had a great season last year, the last four years were nice, but this is a step higher up now and I’m very happy to be here. My growth is really big in Belgium. I went in as a kid and left as a grown man. Now is the time for a big leap and I want to show myself here. If you see how big the club is, what they reached last year was wonderful, and I hope we can do the same this year - and maybe better."
