Newcastle United have stepped up their search for a new right-back following Tino Livramento's withdrawal from England's World Cup squad due to a calf injury.
The 23-year-old now faces a battle to regain fitness over the summer, presenting boss Eddie Howe with a potential selection dilemma ahead of the new Premier League campaign. The exits of seasoned full-backs Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth leave Livramento as the sole senior recognised right-back in the squad.
A new right-sided defender was already believed to be on the agenda, but Howe and sporting director Ross Wilson are expected to intensify their search following confirmation of Livramento's forthcoming period on the treatment table.
With Newcastle's requirement for reinforcements more apparent than ever, Mirror Football pinpoints five right-backs they could potentially sign this summer.
Guela Doue
The elder sibling of Paris Saint-Germain's star forward Desire, Guela Doue has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Strasbourg in Ligue 1. Born in France to an Ivorian father and French mother, he is representing the Ivory Coast at the World Cup. An athletic defender, Doue arrived for £5million from Rennes in 2024. Strasbourg's widely reported financial troubles suggest an offer in the region of £25m could be sufficient to secure his signature.
Josh Acheampong
Chelsea's Josh Acheampong is another name linked with a move to Tyneside, though the Blues are believed to be reluctant to let their academy prospect go. The highly-rated Englishman, 20, would represent a long-term investment rather than an instant solution, but he possesses blistering pace, while his work ethic would suit Newcastle's approach.
Oscar Mingueza
According to Spanish publication AS, Newcastle and Arsenal are amongst the sides competing to secure Celta Vigo's Oscar Mingueza. The 27-year-old Spaniard, a former product of Barcelona's La Masia academy, is eager for a switch to the Premier League and is available without a transfer fee – a crucial factor in the world of PSR.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Widely considered one of the most formidable one-on-one defenders in the country, Aaron Wan-Bissaka suffered relegation with West Ham and would be obtainable for a reduced price. The DR Congo international, who helped his country claim an unlikely point in their World Cup curtain-raiser against Portugal, boasts proven Premier League pedigree, having turned out for the Hammers, Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
Vanderson
Brazilian international Vanderson, presently plying his trade in France with Monaco, has been on Newcastle's shortlist for several years. The 24-year-old boasts strong technical quality and adaptability, though he would likely command a higher fee than other options.
