Friends and family have paid tribute to a young woman from Lancashire who died following a battle with a rare disorder. Hermione Taylor, from Darwen, died from a "devastating and rare condition" called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN).
A life remembered
In a tribute, her loved ones said Hermione "had the most beautiful smile, a laugh that was infectious and a wonderful sense of humour that could brighten even the darkest days". SJS is a rare and serious disorder affecting the skin and mucous membranes, beginning with flu-like symptoms before developing into a painful red or purplish rash that blisters and peels, causing the outer layer of skin to die and shed.
TEN is a rare, life-threatening skin reaction that causes blistering and peeling over more than 30 per cent of the body. Both conditions are typically triggered by a severe reaction to medications.
Fundraising and awareness
A campaign has been launched to raise funds and awareness for SJS Awareness UK, a charitable organisation that provides information and support to those affected by Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN), reports Lancs Live.
In a poignant tribute, Hermione's family said: "It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful Hermione. Hermione was truly one of a kind - strong, brave and incredibly courageous, facing every challenge with unwavering determination. She had the most beautiful smile, a laugh that was infectious, and a wonderful sense of humour that could brighten even the darkest days."

Although our hearts are broken, we want to celebrate Hermione’s life in the way she would have wanted - remembering the love, laughter and happiness she brought into the world. Funeral details
Hermione’s funeral service will be held at St Peter’s Church on Tuesday 11th August at 12:00pm, followed by burial for close family and friends only. "We will then celebrate Hermione's life at Darwen Cricket club."
