Celtic captain Callum McGregor has been told to go and make mega money in the Saudi Pro League amid links with Ange Postecoglou's Al-Nassr. The Celtic midfielder sent the rumour mill into overdrive this summer as he switched agents to be represented by Unique Sports Group, the same agency as Al-Qadsiah gaffer and former Hoops' boss Brendan Rodgers.
While that deal doesn't appear to be getting off the ground, a link up with former Parkhead boss Postecoglou has been touted after he checked in to the Saudi Pro League champions Nassr. Speaking on his 'Let Me Be Frank' podcast, Hoops' legend Frank McAvennie admits he has a gut feeling about McGregor's future: "It's just me and my instincts. I tell you why, he came out and said about not matching his ambitions - but it's the first time in 10 years he wasn't the main guy in the main kit advert, and I thought 'oh'."
McAvennie Backs McGregor's Potential Move
Discussing the change of agent, McAvennie admits there will be no ill will from him if he follows Postecoglou or Rodgers to the Middle East: "He has got Brendan over there, but he has Ange as well. I am thinking the guy is at an age where you go over there for two years, you will make more money in two years than your whole career." McAvennie added: "Listen, if he goes he will go with my blessing because he has been different class. I hope he stays."
Bakker Deal Beckons as Saracchi Alternative
Atalanta's versatile left-wing back Mitchel Bakker has been touted with a move to Celtic Park. The club have so far failed to bring back Marcelo Saracchi from Boca Juniors permanently, and reports in Italy suggest a move to Glasgow "beckons" for the Dutchman as an alternative for the Uruguayan. Tuttomercatoweb report the Serie A side are attempting to work out a "solution" with the player set to depart. Bakker's agents reportedly consider Celtic "the most viable destination right now" for a player who will see his deal expire at the end of next season.
Engels Attracts Interest Across Europe
In terms of outgoings, Arne Engels is attracting interest from across Europe. The Hoops knocked back an eye-watering £25 million bid from Nottingham Forest on winter deadline day, and interest has only rocketed since then. Martin O'Neill has conceded a deal could be in motion towards the end of the window for the Belgian, and Roma are said to be on alert. Gazzetta dello Sport state Engels remains on the radar for the Serie A giants after being among the players "monitored" in recent weeks. It is noted that the Italians are considering their options in the market as they expect to fork out £25 million if they move for the Celtic playmaker.
