Arsenal Eye Real Madrid's Arda Guler & January Transfer Windfall
Arsenal target Guler and could land transfer windfall

Arsenal are poised to explore opportunities to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window as they aim to solidify their position at the Premier League summit.

Gunners Admire Real Madrid Talent

Despite a well-stocked midfield, manager Mikel Arteta is always on the lookout for quality additions, especially with a fierce title race underway. While major business is not anticipated this month, the club retains a strong interest in Real Madrid's 20-year-old Turkish midfielder, Arda Guler.

Reports from CaughtOffside indicate that both Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy are great admirers of the player and would be keen to structure a deal. However, the Spanish giants are currently reluctant to part ways with the young star, who has impressed his manager, Xabi Alonso.

Alonso recently paid Guler a significant compliment, comparing his unique blend of talents to former Real Madrid players Mesut Özil and Guti. "Arda has that something special — that natural talent you can’t teach," Alonso stated.

Potential Financial Boost from Past Deals

Even without a major outlay, Arsenal could receive a welcome financial injection this winter thanks to shrewdly negotiated sell-on clauses for two former players.

The first involves defender Nuno Tavares, who joined Lazio permanently last summer for around £7.5 million. Arsenal are believed to have secured a sell-on clause estimated between 25% and 35% of any future fee. With Lazio now in talks to sell Tavares to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, the Gunners stand to profit.

The second clause concerns young right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy, who moved to Genoa in August 2024 for £1.75 million plus substantial add-ons. His impressive performances in Serie A have reportedly attracted interest from Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan, meaning any transfer would further benefit Arsenal's finances.

Title Charge Gathers Momentum

This potential transfer activity comes as Arsenal enjoy a commanding position in the league. A comprehensive 4-1 victory over Aston Villa ensured they entered the New Year at the top of the table, a position they have now held for 12 consecutive weeks.

Arteta's squad has also been bolstered by the timely returns from injury of key players Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Magalhaes. With the team competing on multiple fronts, any squad additions or financial gains in January could prove crucial in the final push for the Premier League title.
