Marta Kostyuk and Linda Noskova will face each other in the Wimbledon semi-finals, ensuring that a Ukrainian woman will compete in the final of the grass-court Grand Slam for the first time in history. Both players won their quarter-final matches on Tuesday to set up the all-Ukrainian showdown.
Kostyuk Overcomes Rybakina in Three Sets
Marta Kostyuk, the 20-year-old from Kyiv, defeated Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a hard-fought quarter-final. Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion, took the first set but Kostyuk rallied to win the next two. Kostyuk's victory marks her first Grand Slam semi-final appearance.
Noskova Advances Past Pegula
Linda Noskova, also 20 and from Kyiv, beat American Jessica Pegula 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-finals. Noskova broke Pegula's serve three times and saved all four break points she faced. This is Noskova's first Grand Slam semi-final as well.
Historic All-Ukrainian Semi-Final
The semi-final between Kostyuk and Noskova is the first all-Ukrainian match in Wimbledon history. It guarantees that a Ukrainian player will reach the final, a milestone for Ukrainian tennis. The winner will face either Ons Jabeur or Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
Reactions from the Players
Kostyuk said after her match: “It's incredible to be in the semi-finals. Linda and I have known each other since we were kids. It will be a special match for both of us and for Ukraine.” Noskova added: “I'm so happy to play Marta in the semis. We've trained together many times. May the best Ukrainian win.”
