James Nicholas Withdraws from The Open Due to Foot Injury

James Nicholas has been forced to withdraw from The 154th Open Championship due to a foot injury, organisers the R&A confirmed in a statement on Friday.

First-Round Performance and Withdrawal

Nicholas, who was part of the first group on Thursday, carded a five-over-par 75 in the opening round at Royal Birkdale. The American professional was scheduled to begin his second round but was unable to continue due to the injury.

The R&A stated: “James Nicholas, who was part of the first group on Thursday and carded a five-over-par 75, has withdrawn from The 154th Open due to a foot injury.”

Revised Pairings for the Second Round

As a result of Nicholas's withdrawal, the R&A adjusted the pairings for the second round. Matthew Baldwin and Thomas Detry will now begin as a pairing at 11:41am local time.

The 154th Open Championship continues at Royal Birkdale, with the remaining players competing for the Claret Jug.
