Chelsea have confirmed the sale of striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan to West Bromwich Albion in a permanent deal worth around £4 million. The 20-year-old, who never made a senior appearance for the Blues, leaves Stamford Bridge after impressing on loan at Peterborough United last season.
Morgan's Journey at Chelsea
Morgan joined Chelsea from Southampton for £3 million as a 17-year-old in February 2023. He scored 21 goals in 46 appearances for the Under-21s but never broke into the first team. The England youth international spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at League Two Gillingham, scoring twice in 16 outings.
Last season, he excelled at Peterborough United in League One, netting 14 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions as the Posh finished 18th in the table.
West Brom's New Signing
Morgan becomes the Baggies' first signing of the summer transfer window. West Brom finished four points above the Championship relegation zone last season under manager James Morrison, who guided them to a 10-game unbeaten run, including four wins, six draws, and seven clean sheets.
Morrison, initially appointed as interim head coach, was given the job permanently at the end of the season.
Departures from Chelsea Youth Setup
Morgan is the latest academy player to leave Chelsea this summer. The club also announced that Brodi Hughes, Richard Olise, Sam Rak-Sakyi, and Jimi Tauriainen would depart after their contracts expired on June 30.
This is Chelsea's second sale of the summer transfer window, following a deal with Real Madrid for Marc Cucurella to return to Spain.
