Ghana's most renowned witch doctor, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, has vowed to place a curse on England striker Harry Kane in an attempt to boost the African nation's prospects ahead of their World Cup showdown. The two sides meet on Tuesday, and Nana Kwaku Bonsam – whose name literally translates as 'Devil of Wednesday' – has a track record of deploying his supernatural powers to give Ghana an advantage.
Previous Success Against Cristiano Ronaldo
He previously claimed responsibility for inflicting a knee injury on Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2014 World Cup – and now he is preparing to target prolific goalscorer Kane. Nana told the Daily Star: 'I am working on Harry Kane. I have shown what I am capable of before so I know what work I must do to stop him. I am very famous for my predictions.'
Nana claims his abilities stem from the Kofi Oo Kofi shrine and describes himself as 'Africa's only Authentic Man' – among the services he provides are spiritual healing, protection, guidance and rituals. In 2014, he insisted he was behind a knee problem that jeopardised Cristiano Ronaldo's involvement at the World Cup before Portugal took on Ghana.
Details of the Curse
He revealed that he created a special powder from his gods, combined with various leaves and mixtures, which he positioned around a photograph and caricature of the former Manchester United star. The witch doctor is claiming to curse Harry Kane. Nana said at the time: 'I know what Cristiano Ronaldo's injury is about, I'm working on him. I am very serious about it. Last week, I went around looking for four dogs and I got them to be used in manufacturing a special spirit called Kahwiri Kapam.'
'I said it four months ago that I will work on Cristiano Ronaldo seriously and rule him out of the World Cup or at least prevent him from playing against Ghana and the best thing I can do is to keep him out though injury. This injury can never be cured by any medic, they can never see what is causing the injury because it is spiritual. Today, it is his knee, tomorrow it is his thigh, next day it is something else.'
Impact on England's Hopes
Nana added regarding Kane: 'I am not wishing him serious injury. It will be just enough to stop him against my country. I will do my work so that it can help Ghana.' The England team remains focused on the match, with manager Gareth Southgate likely to downplay any supernatural threats.
