Carragher: Klopp vs Slot International Clash Could Be Mouth-Watering

Jamie Carragher has predicted a mouth-watering future clash between Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot on the international stage. The former Liverpool defender spoke as Klopp is on the verge of becoming Germany manager, while Slot is strongly linked with the Netherlands job following Ronald Koeman's resignation.

Klopp Set for Germany Return

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly set to end his managerial hiatus by replacing Julian Nagelsmann as Germany head coach. The iconic Reds boss, who left Liverpool in 2024, has been working as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer but gained firsthand insight into Die Mannschaft during a punditry stint at their ill-fated World Cup campaign.

Slot in Frame for Netherlands After Koeman Exit

Ronald Koeman resigned as Holland head coach after a shock round-of-32 exit to Morocco. Arne Slot, sacked by Liverpool after a disappointing Premier League title defence, has been linked with an immediate return to management in the coveted role.

Carragher Highlights Potential Fixture

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said when asked whether Slot could cope on the world stage: "Yeah why not. He came to the Premier League, he’ll be disappointed about what happened last season but he was in the Premier League for two years and won it first season. He had the courage to take over from Jurgen Klopp so I’ll never forget what he did, it was absolutely fantastic.

"Hopefully it goes well for him, when you’ve been part of Liverpool, player or manager and move on, we hope they go on and do well… not everybody, 99 percent of them, in their next job. Looks like Jurgen Klopp is going to get the German job and I think there is a fixture early next year between Germany and Holland, that might be something to keep an eye on."

Slot's Severance Package and Emotional Farewell

Dutch outlet De Telegraaf reported that if Slot joins Holland, he will not forfeit his severance package from Liverpool. Typically, clubs continue paying sacked managers until the end of their contracts. The report suggests Slot could earn up to €30 million from the Reds, who are said to want to top up his salary during his first year in charge of Holland, saving them millions.

After being relieved of his duties, Slot penned an emotional letter to Liverpool supporters, stating: "It has been a pleasure working with you all. Liverpool’s 20th league title belongs to all of us and it will remain an important chapter in its history. For that we should all be proud.

"But I also leave knowing the club is exactly where it belongs: amongst Europe’s elite. Securing Champions League football was an important responsibility and one that ensures Liverpool can continue competing at the highest level next season and beyond. I leave with complete confidence in what lies ahead.

"The players who have given so much to this club, who have upheld its values and helped create so many unforgettable moments, have built foundations that will endure. At the same time, a new generation is emerging, ready to write its own story and embrace the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt. Change is part of football, but I know that this club will continue to make its people proud. When I first stood beneath that sign in the Anfield tunnel, I knew what this club demanded. I leave knowing we never stopped striving for it."
