Three England stars miss training ahead of Norway clash

Three England players sat out of training on Wednesday ahead of Saturday's World Cup quarter-final against Norway, though two are expected to be fit for the match in Miami.

Injured trio miss session

Reece James, Declan Rice and Marc Guehi all missed training at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City on Wednesday, with manager Thomas Tuchel managing fitness issues within the squad. Jordan Henderson has already been ruled out of the rest of the tournament after smashing his left forearm celebrating the last-16 win over Mexico.

According to The Sun, both Rice and Guehi are expected to be fine to face Norway. Rice has been dealing with a hamstring complaint for months but has played through it for club and country. The Arsenal midfielder was rested for the final group game against Panama but has started all four other matches at the World Cup. Guehi is reportedly suffering from 'muscle fatigue' but is likely to partner Ezri Konsa at centre-back in Miami.

James the main concern

James remains the only serious uncertainty ahead of the quarter-final as he continues recovering from a hamstring problem picked up during the group stage. The Chelsea captain started England's first two games but has not played since the goalless draw with Ghana. Tuchel hinted before the Mexico win that James was nearing a return, and there is hope he will be fit enough for the squad, but a starting place appears unlikely.

With Jarell Quansah suspended following his red card in the last round, Djed Spence is the likeliest option to start at right-back against Norway, as he did against DR Congo in the round of 32.
